Daytime parasol, evening soft light

"Daytime parasol, evening soft loft" is the description of Julia Roth and Veronique Baer's Summer Night's Dream entry to the Sunny Memories international workshop.

We saw Roth and Baer's entry at the AIANY Gallery in the West Village.  Designs are based on "thin, coloured, translucent and even flexible" solar cells developed by Professor Michael Graetzel of EFPL/Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne.  Roth and Baer attend ECAL//Ecole cantonale d'art de Lausanne, one of four design schools from which entries were received. 80 students from CCA/California College of the Arts, RCA/Royal College of Art (London), ECAL/Ecole cantonale d'art de Lausanne, and ENSCI/Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle (Paris) submitted projects.

Notice, in the background, the cushion "trimmed with felt and solar bands" or the Acedia by Geoffrey Buthey and Vanessa Hordies.  The parasol and the cushion, perfect elements for my imagined outdoor space.  See the EPFL+ECAL Lab website for downloadable images of the final projects.
