Radical Understory--No More Tulip Bulbs

I was invited to contribute an essay to the Global Roundtable hosted by The Nature of Cities. Participants were asked to respond to the following questions: "Can we enable better decision-making when it comes to urban plant selection and preparation? Does urban ecology and the horticulture industry need to be better engaged with each other?"

Here's the central argument of my piece: "We can no longer devote public money and public lands to single-function plants. We cannot limit native understory species to natural areas." You can read the entire essay by searching "Radical Understory" in the April 2022 Nature of Cities Global Roundtable.
